CareerSource Capital Region Provides Hurricane Michael Relief Mobile Unit

Mobile Employment and Small Business Service deploys to counties affected by Hurricane Michael

CareerSource Capital Region and CareerSource Northeast Florida in partnership with the Gadsden County Development Council, Florida Small Business Development Center Network, and the Wakulla County Economic Development Council will provide employment and business services throughout Gadsden and Wakulla counties via a mobile assistance center. The center is equipped with Wi-Fi and 20 computer workstations.

The mobile unit will travel to multiple locations to provide assistance with re-employment services and on-site applications for available disaster recovery jobs. It will also assist with applications for the Florida Small Business Emergency Bridge Loan Program.

“Unfortunately, residents in Chattahoochee, Gretna, Greensboro, Quincy, Havana, Midway, Panacea, Sopchoppy and other outlining areas are still without power,” said Jim McShane, Chief Executive Officer for CareerSource Capital Region.

“We know that it is critically important for residents to have communication at their disposal after any storm. We hope that this service will help residents apply for public assistance more quickly for them to get the help that they need. It will allow them the opportunity to apply for the disaster recovery jobs that are available.”

Antonio Jefferson, Chairman of the Gadsden County Development Council said, “We appreciate the resources of CareerSource and our partners at DEO and the SBDC for bringing these resources directly to the hardest hit areas of the region. These resources will help bridge the gap between the impacts of Michael and longer term recovery resources, such as sufficient profits from a revived business, receipt of payments on insurance claims or federal disaster assistance.”
